Welcome to Gisborne Thunder's Web Site

Welcome to Gisborne Thunder!  We are affiliated with Swimming Victoria and Central Victoria Swimming (District 15), and completely run by members on a non-profit basis for the benefit of club members and the wider community.  The club currently has more than 60 members covering the range of abilities from learn-to-swim through to

State and National representatives.  This club web site has been developed as a resource for our club members, and to provide a brief introduction for people interested in swimming at our club.  The committee hopes you find it useful.  Of course, if you are unsure about any aspects, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

See you at the pool!

CLUB NOTICEBOARD (Also check out our Blog)
The results for the September Club Night are now available on our Club Meets page. Rose Avenell-Thompson retains the lead in the point-score race and is closely followed by Lucy McCamley and Grace Avenell-Thompson.  Congratulations to Lachlan Jones for winning Swimmer of the Month and to all the encouragement award winners.

Congratulations to our new Club Captains Izabella and Kyle.

The club's new Committee has been elected at the AGM held on Saturday 14th May.  Check who they are on this page.

The club's Annual Report has been issued.  This contains a complete wrap-up of the 2015-16 season as well as all award winners from the presentation night, photos, club records and more. Download it from this page.

Have you checked on your top times and tracked your progress through the past season?  Or maybe you have recorded a recent Club Record?  See this page for reports on "Top Times" for all club members which is useful for getting the correct entry times for both long and short course meets. As well, there is a report of all swims for all swimmers in the past season so you can see how your times improved.

Well done to our young swimmers that represented Gisborne Thunder at the Country All Junior Championships over the weekend of 9-10 April.  Outstanding performances were achieved by Charlotte Matthews (Gold: 8/Under 50 Fly) and Darcy Smith (Silver: 10/Under 50 Free, Bronze: 10/Under 50 Fly).  Other finalists were Kiera Cooper, Isabella Crawford and Dempsey Smith.

An excellent group of 49 swimmers participated at the February Club Night which was our best turn-out for several months.  The results are now available on our Club Meets page.

Have you set any club records this season?  Check out the updated club records on this page.  There are also full season reports available showing every time swum for every club swimmer covering both club nights and SV competitions.  Congratulations to our award winners on the night.

The results for the November Club Night are now available on our Club Meets page.  The point-score ladder is tight at the top.  From now, the point-score will go "in camera" until after the March Club Championships night.  Congratulations to Anika on being awarded the Swimmer of the Month!

Thanks to Bakers Delight Gisborne, a number of encouragement certificates were awarded on the night.  Well done to all swimmers.

The results for the October Club Night are now available on our Club Meets page. Congratulations to Grace and Reave for achieving the Swimmer Of the Month award and the Encouragement Award respectively.

The Junior Excellence and Youth Performance Awards for 2014-15 were recently announced.  Well done to all award winners.  A full list of award winners can be found on the Swimming Victoria web site.  A few of the successful swimmers were on hand to accept their award at the September club night.

GO CLUB PB 2014:  We are very pleased to announce that Gisborne Thunder has achieved SILVER level for the past season.

The GO Club PB is the national swimming club standard that recognises and rewards swimming clubs by measuring their performance across five key areas (memberships, administration, activities, coaching and officiating, marketing and promotion).  Depending on the level achieved, the benefits of participating in the GO Club PB include recognition, evaluation of strength and weaknesses, rewards pack, eligibility for cash and equipment grants, access to an appearance from a member of the Australian Swim Team and/or a mentor coach, etc.

In 2010 (our first year) we were rated as "Entry Level".  2011 saw us raised to "Bronze Level", and for the past three seasons we have been rated "Silver Level".  This is a result of hard work by our club committee, coach and parent volunteers over several years.

For more information, see the Swimming Australia web site.
